How much does a full re-side cost in Maple Plain?
What warranty do I get?
What happens at the first appointment?
Do you work on homes with lead paint?
Do I need a permit for siding work?
Most full re-sides on a single-family home in Maple Plain take five to eight working days once materials arrive. Tear-off of old siding adds one to two days if the existing cladding is wood. Weather delays can push the schedule, and our project manager will communicate any changes the same day.
We provide a workmanship warranty on our labor, and the manufacturer's product warranty covers the material. Fiber cement products typically carry a 30-year non-prorated warranty, while vinyl varies by brand from 25 years to lifetime. We walk through warranty details at the estimate appointment so you know exactly what is covered.
Yes. The city of Maple Plain requires a building permit for a full re-side. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection, and handle the paperwork. You do not need to visit city hall.
One of our project managers visits your home, measures the exterior, inspects the existing siding condition, and discusses your material preferences. We take photos and notes, then deliver a written estimate within a few business days. There is no charge and no obligation.
How long does a siding project take?
For a standard rambler or split-level, our written estimates for vinyl typically fall between $8,000 and $13,000, and fiber cement runs $15,000 to $24,000. The exact number depends on wall area, trim details, and whether we need to address sheathing or moisture damage underneath. Your written estimate will confirm the price before any work begins.
Minneapolis homeowners spend anywhere from $25,000 to $120,000 on full exterior overhauls, and the right contractor makes the difference between a project that holds up for thirty years and one that starts peeling after five. That's the work we do every season across the city.

We work throughout the following communities. [CONFIRM final list]
As a family-owned contractor, we know these neighborhoods: the lake homes around Minnetonka and Orono, the newer developments in Corcoran and Medina, and the established streets of Wayzata and Excelsior. That local knowledge shapes how we plan a project, from lot conditions and municipal review to the material choices that hold up in this climate.

Whole-Exterior Renewals on Century Homes
Minneapolis has one of the densest concentrations of pre-1940 housing stock in the Upper Midwest. Neighborhoods like Kingfield, Powderhorn, and Northeast are packed with foursquares and Craftsmans that were originally clad in wood clapboard or early stucco over wood lath. These homes present specific challenges our crews deal with constantly: balloon framing with no fire stops, original knob-and-tube wiring buried in exterior walls, and layers of lead paint under every surface.
Our typical sequence on a century home starts with selective demolition to expose the sheathing and assess rot. We replace compromised framing, install a proper water-resistive barrier, and then reclad. Because most of these homes predate 1978, our EPA lead-safe certification (LFC-281) is required by federal law for any work that disturbs painted surfaces. We don't treat that as a checkbox: our containment and cleanup protocols protect your family and your neighbors.
Minneapolis code requires permits for residing, and inspectors here pay close attention to flashing details around windows and transitions between materials. The city's exterior remodeling projects consistently return strong resale value, which makes these investments practical, not just cosmetic. Our project managers handle the permit process so you don't have to chase paperwork at City Hall.

Stucco Repair vs. Recladding
A lot of the stucco in Minneapolis was applied between 1910 and 1950, and the question we hear most is whether it can be patched or needs to come off entirely. The honest answer depends on what's behind it. If the wire lath is intact and the sheathing is sound, spot repairs and a full skim coat can buy you another twenty years. But if moisture has been migrating behind the stucco for a long time, especially on north-facing walls that take the brunt of freeze-thaw cycles from November through March, patching is just cosmetic.
We probe suspect areas with a moisture meter before recommending anything. On about 40% of the stucco homes we inspect in Minneapolis, the damage behind the surface is extensive enough that recladding is the smarter investment. That usually means stripping to sheathing, correcting any rot, and switching to fiber cement or engineered wood siding with a rainscreen gap. The gap matters here because Minneapolis gets roughly 34 inches of precipitation annually plus significant snow load, and trapped moisture is what killed the original stucco in the first place.

Why Homeowners Hire NorBrook Construction
We hold Minnesota residential building contractor license BC80875, which you can verify through the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry license lookup. For any work on homes built before 1978, our EPA lead-safe certification LFC-281 keeps the project compliant with federal renovation rules. Co-founder Seth Norling holds the OSHA 30 certification, which means our job sites follow strict safety standards from setup to final cleanup.
Robb Norling, Seth Norling, and Charlie Brookins started NorBrook because they believed homeowners deserved a contractor who communicated like a partner, not a vendor. Every job we take gets a dedicated project manager who provides daily or weekly updates depending on the scope. You'll never wonder what's happening at your house. If you want to talk specifics before anything formal, call us at 763-237-5114.

Your Options Compared, and What We Recommend
| Material | Installed Cost (per sq ft) | Lifespan | Maintenance | NorBrook Recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vinyl Siding | $4 - $8 | 20 - 30 years | Low: wash annually | Budget-friendly, but fades and cracks in extreme cold. We suggest it for detached garages or rental properties. |
| Fiber Cement (e.g., HardiePlank) | $8 - $14 | 30 - 50 years | Moderate: repaint every 10 - 15 years | Our default recommendation for most Minneapolis homes. Handles freeze-thaw, resists woodpeckers, and curb appeal upgrades drive the highest resale return. |
| Engineered Wood | $7 - $12 | 25 - 40 years | Moderate: repaint every 8 - 12 years | Good for historic homes where you want real wood texture. Slightly more vulnerable to moisture than fiber cement. |
| Natural Wood (Cedar) | $10 - $18 | 20 - 40 years | High: stain every 3 - 5 years | Beautiful but demanding. We recommend it only if you're committed to ongoing maintenance. |
| Metal Panel | $12 - $20 | 40 - 60 years | Very low | Best for modern or contemporary builds. Overkill for most traditional Minneapolis neighborhoods. |
For the majority of Minneapolis exterior projects, we recommend fiber cement siding with a rainscreen installation. It handles the temperature swings (from -20°F to 95°F), holds paint well, and the Minnesota remodeling market, projected to reach $2.9 billion in 2026, reflects how seriously homeowners here take long-term material choices. Fiber cement gives you the best balance of durability, appearance, and cost.

Common Questions Before Hiring NorBrook in Minneapolis, MN
How much does a full exterior remodel cost in Minneapolis? Most of our full-exterior projects in Minneapolis fall between $35,000 and $95,000, depending on home size, material choice, and how much rot repair is needed. Your written estimate will break down every line item before we start.
How long will the project take? A typical full reside on a standard two-story Minneapolis home takes three to five weeks, weather permitting. We schedule around the best exterior working months (May through October) but can handle urgent repairs year-round.
Do you pull permits? Yes. Minneapolis requires permits for siding replacement, window changes, and structural repairs. Our project manager handles the application and coordinates inspections so you don't have to.
What warranty do I get? We provide a workmanship warranty on our labor, and all materials carry their manufacturer's warranty. The specific terms are spelled out in your contract before we begin.
Do you work on homes with lead paint? Absolutely. Our EPA lead-safe certification (LFC-281) is specifically for renovating pre-1978 homes. We follow all containment, testing, and disposal protocols required by federal and state law.
What happens at the first appointment? We walk your home's exterior together, take measurements, check for moisture damage, and discuss your goals and budget. You'll receive a detailed written estimate within a few business days. There's strong evidence that exterior improvements outperform interior ones in resale value, so we'll also talk about which upgrades make the most financial sense for your specific property.

What We Build
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Seth Norling
Vice President
I've spent more than 12 years in the construction industry, and I've built my career around one idea: a project runs best when it's planned well and managed closely. As Vice President at NorBrook Construction, I focus on project management, planning, and execution — making sure every build moves forward efficiently, stays on budget, and meets the highest standards from the first meeting to the final walkthrough.
My background is rooted in both education and hands-on experience. I'm a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a degree in Commercial Construction Management, and I've spent the years since delivering projects through strong leadership and close collaboration with clients, crews, and partners. I've learned that clear communication is what keeps a project on track and a client confident, so it's something I never leave to chance.
NorBrook is a family business, and that changes how we work. When my dad, Robb, and I take on a custom home, an exterior remodel, or a commercial build, we treat it like it's our own — because our name is on it. My goal on every project is a successful outcome for the client: work done right, delivered on time and on budget, and built to a standard we're proud to stand behind.
